The trick in this decision tool lies in your reaction to the outcome of the toss. How did you feel immediately after learning what the coin's choice was -- pleased or disappointed? So now you know what you were hoping for.
Your body's reaction is immediate and bypasses all the conscious mind's editing. If, for example, you were consciously thinking about what you ought to do or toward pleasing your partner or friend in spite of really wanting to go the other way, your reactions makes it clear what you want. You still can do what the other person wants, if there is another person. Or, you let them know what your preference is and then negotiate.
If you were leaning toward the other choice because of fear, you can evaluate whether the fear is justified or could be reduced.
